My Regimen

So I hadn’t really been following a proper hair regimen and realised that my natural sisters in America [whose blogs are my biggest influence and inspiration] actually have regimens for their hair which made their hair thrive. And so I embarked on a journey to properly moisturised and healthy natural 4c hair because I denyingly believe that my hair has been failing because my hair regimen was non-existent.

I decided to split my hair regimen into the different weeks of the month.

Week 1 starts with a hot oil treatment – I am a child of dry and ‘unmanageable’ 4c hair and have struggled with a bit of traction alopecia so it made sense to begin with this process

I usually mix two or three of my favourite oils in a ‘squeezable’ bottle:

Coconut oil [my hair simply adores coconut oil].

Olive oil or Tea Tree

Jamaican Black Castor Oil

How I Apply: I put the bottle [with the mixture in it] in boiled water for a few minutes or until the coconut oil is properly melted. Then apply to my SCALP and hair. I cover my hair with a plastic bag and towel for 30 minutes then unwrap and enjoy the beauty.

*some people choose to shampoo their hair afterwards to avoid build-up but with my hair there is usually nothing left to be shampooed because it is so thirsty.

Week 2 I am on the Pre-poo tip – since I started my 2nd natural hair journey in 2013, but only put real effort into growing my 4c hair in 2014, pre-pooing has loved my hair so much.

I pre-poo with an oil of choice and conditioner:

Coconut oil or Olive Oil

Tressemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture

Then cover my hair with a plastic bag or a shower cap

This potion worked well for me in 2014 when I wasn’t being lazy.

How I Apply: What I usually do is dampen my hair with clean hot water – to open up my hair cuticles- then apply to each section of hair, first the oil and then the conditioner [I use this time to detangle my hair thoroughly with the thinnest teeth comb].

I used to pre-poo overnight but I get headaches from the tight plastic that I wrap on my head to seal in the moisture so I just do a morning til evening or 7 hour pre-poo.

Week 3 – knowing me, laziness has crept in at this point and this is why I picked this week as my Co-washing week. No drama or long pre-heated mixtures *whoop whoop*.

Here I usually use any 2 conditioners:

Option 1

Tressemme moisture and one with Keratin [for protein]

Option 2

Tressemme moisture and ORS replenishing conditioner

How I Apply: I just wet my hair and apply both conditioners, detangle my hair with them on and then sit for like 5 minutes then wash off with NO SHAMPOO this time.

Week 4 is deep conditioning week – here I just get a deep conditioner mix and apply it to my hair to re-nourish and re-moisturise it.

Because I have been working on my alopecia I have been using the:

Dr Miracle Follicle Healer deep conditioner mix

On the regular though I use the:

ORS Replenishing Pak

Or

Dr Miracle deep conditioning treatment

How I Apply: is by dampening my hair, applying any conditioner and then detangling my hair. After detangling, I apply the deep conditioning treatment and sit with a plastic cover over my hair for about 7 hours then wash it off and shampoo. I have never tried it overnight but the back of the pack usually says you can.
